This week is very exciting!! August 25-August 31 is Black Breastfeeding Week!! Let me first start out by saying that I support all moms who chose to feed their babies in whatever way is best for them and their little one. I personally choose to breastfeed my little’s and I have been blessed that they are so willing to accept the boob. Here are a few reasons why I LOVE to nurse my babies.
I love the intimacy! There is a special closeness and bond that comes with nursing a baby. I enjoy that special time. Sustaining life with my body is a miracle. I love that I am able to make food and provide comfort when he is in need. The way that Heavenly Father created our bodies is astonishing. This sacrifice doesn’t feels like so to me, it feel like an amazing privilege that I get to be a part of.
I try my best to eat right and exercise. We eat clean (most of the time) and love being outdoors with our family. If I am going to go out of my way to feed my family healthy food then that includes the baby. He too needs the best and the best for him is breast milk. I, like millions, have had to use formula and am not putting it down but when given the option, I prefer to feed him natures milk over mans milk.
Having a sick baby is no fun. When an infant gets sick we can not even give them so much as Tylenol until they are at least six months. And the medicine after that age is still limited. My body makes antibodies that are passed to the baby to help keep him build and keep their immune systems strong. I am their first line of defense against the world and I take pride in that. I take my vitamins, eat plenty of veggies and whole grains so that I can help make my baby strong.
The last reason why I love breastfeeding is the snuggles!! Who does not love baby snuggles. I love that endorphin’s and oxytocin are released every time that I feed the baby. That means that I get to enjoy that ‘in love with” feelings while snuggling him several times a day. This never gets old. I miss my sleep but I love holding my little one during the night when its quiet and peaceful. I even sneak away to the nursery during the day for a little break from the craziness. I love it all! I hope that you love feeding your baby as much as I do in which ever form you chose to use. Share with me what you love about feeding time in the comments below.
