A couple of days ago we celebrated my birthday. The day began kinda somber because my husband was away on business and I had a rough night the day before. I woke up giving myself a pity party and decided to go for a run. As I opened the door, to my surprise, standing with a bouquet of flowers and birthday goodies was my sister. I was elated! She says to me, want to go visit GG? GG is our grandmother and she lives in the middle of no where in a small county town with no stop lights. I said yes!
Well, all of a sudden I was racing my mind over what I needed and how I hadn’t packed for myself or for the boys. Before I started packing I said a prayer. Things always go more smoothly when I ask the Lord for help. This is how I managed a successful impromptu road trip.
First, if you have little’s then start with the diaper bag. Run to the nursery and grab a stack of diapers and a new pack of wipes. Even if you already have some in the bag…you can never have too many when going out of town. While you are there grab a change of clothes for everyone. Don’t stress over the cuteness of the outfit. All kids are cute in jeans and t-shirt.
Next, I ran to the pantry. I keep a stack of Thirty One Cooler bags over my fridge. I grabbed a bag and handfuls of applesauce, crackers, granola bars and filled water bottles. I didn’t worry about whether or not we were eating healthy because who doesn’t like junk food on a road trip.
The last thing I did was run to the back yard and snatch up a couple of balls and trucks for the boys to play with. I wanted them to enjoy the fresh county air once we arrived at GG’s house. I keep a stash of DVD’s in the car so I wasn’t worried about entertainment. If they get tired of watching those then they can look out of the window like I used to as a kid.
So, in a matter of 15 mins, I went from having a pity party to driving down the road for what would be a wonderful birthday and road trip. These are a few pictures from our outdoor fun. We had blast! What are your road trip staples? Share with me in the comments below.
