Many of my friends have been asking me about how to prepare for a holiday road trip this season; so I am very excited to share with you some of my favorite tips. As an army brat we were often traveling to visit our family in Florida for the Holidays. Some of my best memories of those trips where all of the time that we spent together in the car laughing and joking. My dad built a stand and placed an TV on it so that we could watch movies. My mom would pack the most amazing snacks and fry up chicken to munch on while we were on the road. The memorable journey was just as much fun as the adventure. Our family has been very busy with traveling this fall. We visited Chicago, and I took a girls trip to Santa Rosa Beach, FL but this will be our first road trip as a whole family for the 2016 Holiday season. I have taken some of my nostalgic childhood memories and applied them to my own family. Here is a list of my favorite tips on how I prepare for a holiday road trip.
• Do the Laundry: When I return from a long road trip with the family, the last thing that I want to do is laundry. I wash all of the clothes and sheets in the home and immediately place what I need for the trip into the suitcase. I neatly put the remaining clothes away so that everything is organized when I return. •Clean the Kitchen and Bathrooms: As a child I was taught to never return home to a dirty house! The best part of going on vacation is relaxing and not doing any chores; so why would you want to return home only to start chores right away? Well, when the kitchen and bathrooms are clean the house will smell great and you can return happy to a clean and organized home. •Service and Organize Your Car: This is especially important if you are traveling with kids. The last thing that you want is to be stranded on the side of the road with your little’s during the Holidays. It will definitely bring a damper to all of the road trip excitement. You also want to organize your car. Have a designated area for trash, snacks and drinks. Keep them close and easily accessible. • Bring Something New: We like to pack a new movie for the kids on every road trip. They are so exited and attentive while watching because they haven’t seen it a million times. This makes the kids happy which makes Mama ecstatic! This tip is good for the parents and the kids. Why pack the same old boring book, snacks and movies? Change it up to keep things exciting and fresh. Here are a few Tips on How to Create a Healthy Kid Friendly Snack Bag for Your Holiday Road Trip Because I want the kids to enjoy their snacks in the car, I like to pack a variety of foods consisting of their favorites and a few new ones.
-Pack something savory and sweet; too much of a good things is a bad thing. -Use clear plastic containers for berries and carrot sticks; we also like to bring a bunch of bananas. -Incorporate some baked muffins. These help to keep the kids full during the long stretches of the road trip when there is no gas station around. -Place all of these yummy treats into an easily accessible cooler bag that will aid in keeping everything nice and fresh! I hope that by utilizing some of these tips you will be able to have a successful holiday road trip! Good luck on creating super fun family memories.
