Living so close to my family this year has been a huge blessing. As an army wife, we often spend many holidays away from our loved ones. Because of this, I jumped at the opportunity to host a cozy outdoor holiday party.
I used our love for the outdoors as my inspiration. My boys love assisting in our usual weekly bonfires and roasting marshmallows for s’mores. I wanted to share these moments with our loved ones so we hosted a hot chocolate and s’mores party over the weekend.
I grabbed a couple of benches from inside of the house and placed them around the fire pit. I set up the s’mores bar with a container of marshmallows, plated gram crackers and of course chocolate!
I added a few peanut butter cups on the s’mores bar. If you are in love with peanut butter like I am then you must try these!! It will not disappoint as a s’mores alternative to the usual chocolate bar.
The hot chocolate bar was my favorite. I made homemade hot chocolate and used the crock-pot to keep it warm. This worked extremely well at keeping the hot chocolate warm the entire evening. I added a few cups of mini marshmallows along with milk and white chocolate chips for garnishing.
I also made chocolate peppermint dipped marshmallow stirrer’s. These where a big hit at the party. Using them in the hot chocolate added a yummy, creamy peppermint flavor to each cup.
What’s hot chocolate without a little whipped cream of course. I wrapped the cans in Christmas paper for an added festive touch. The simplicity of the design made a big statement.
Creating a hand cleaning station was extremely convenient. I placed Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer, baby wipes and paper towels in an easily accessible basket. It was perfect for sanitizing our hands prior to eating. We want to share love at a holiday party; not germs. After all, it is cold and flu season.
I love using Purell because it doesn’t dry out my hands. The gel dries quickly and the aloe helps to soothe my skin. We needed the extra moisture because of the cold air.
Placing the Purell cleaning station outside was great. It allowed everyone to remain together rather than going inside to wash their hands. Let’s be frank, s’mores are amazing but also extremely messy.
In order to make sure that everyone was comfortable, I set up a blanket basket. This allowed my guest to relax and snuggle up next to the fire.
We had an extremely memorable time together. We sat around the fire for hours laughing and talking.
Sipping on sweet drinks and treats was an added bonus.
If you want to try something a little different this year, then hosting an outdoor holiday party may be for you. What type of gatherings do you have with your family during the holidays? Share with me in the comment section below.
